The Lashes Boudoir guide

Eyelash Extensions: An Expert Guide

Everything to know before your first set of eyelash extensions: the styles, what they cost, how the appointment works, patch tests and aftercare. Hand-made at our salons in Ploenchit and Asoke, Bangkok, and Jomtien, Pattaya.

Our approach

Why choose lash extensions at Lashes Boudoir?

Lash extensions should feel light, look like you, and be applied in a calm room by someone who takes their time. These are the things we care about at every appointment.

  • Hand-made, never premade

Every fan is made by hand during your appointment, so the fullness suits your own natural lashes.

  • Designed around your eyes

Your lash artist looks at your eye shape, your natural lashes and the look you want, then chooses lengths and curls to match.

  • A consultation every time

Each appointment begins with a conversation about your lashes, your routine and your style, before anything is applied.

  • Gentle, careful application

Extensions are placed on your natural lashes one by one, with an adhesive option for sensitive eyes.

  • Simple care, lasting wear

A few easy habits and an infill every 2–3 weeks keep your lashes full and fresh.

  • A calm, private space

Soft light, quiet boudoir-style rooms and time that is simply yours, in Ploenchit, Asoke and Jomtien.

The basics

What are eyelash extensions?

Lash extensions with a defined, wet-look finish on brown eyes

Eyelash extensions are fine, lightweight lashes attached to your own natural lashes, one by one, a fraction of a millimetre from the lash line and never on the skin. They add length, curl and fullness without mascara, and grow out with your lashes, which is why they are kept fresh with infills.

Good lash work rests on three things: understanding how natural lashes grow, choosing extensions your lashes can comfortably carry, and placing each one cleanly. The sections below explain each, the way we would in the chair.

  • One extension per natural lash

Each extension, or each hand-made fan, is attached to one natural lash only, so every lash can grow and shed on its own schedule.

  • Light enough to forget

The right length, thickness and curl feel weightless. If a set feels heavy, it is not the right set for your lashes.

  • Kept fresh with infills

As natural lashes shed, their extensions go with them. An infill every 2–3 weeks fills the gaps.

The foundations

How natural lashes grow

To understand lash extensions, it helps to understand the lashes they sit on.

Every natural lash grows in a cycle, and each lash is at its own point in it, so your lashes never all grow, rest or fall at once.

Growth
The lash is growing. New lashes start short and soft; your lash artist leaves them free until they are strong enough, and picks them up at a later infill.
Transition
Growth slows and stops. The lash is at its full length and strength, and carries an extension most comfortably.
Rest and shed
The lash rests, then falls out naturally to make room for a new one. As general guidance, losing a few lashes a day is normal.

A full cycle takes several months. When a natural lash sheds, its extension goes with it, so after 2–3 weeks a set begins to look uneven, and an infill brings it back to full.

Isolation: one lash at a time

With one pair of tweezers, your lash artist isolates a single natural lash; with the other, they place the extension on that lash alone, a fraction of a millimetre from the lash line. Lashes stuck together cannot grow at their own pace, which can feel uncomfortable and often makes them fall early. Clean isolation keeps every lash free.

Why weight matters

Extensions that are too long or too thick for the lash beneath put it under strain through weeks of wear. We choose length and thickness for your lashes, not just for the look, so they stay comfortable and in good condition for your next set.

This is why volume fans use ultra-fine extensions: a fan of several very fine lashes can weigh about the same as one thicker classic extension.

The craft

Classic, hybrid, volume and mega volume

The difference is how many extensions sit on each natural lash, and how they are arranged.

  • Classic (1:1)

One extension on each natural lash. Defined and polished, closest to wearing mascara.

  • Hybrid

Classic extensions and volume fans in one set: more texture than classic, softer than full volume.

  • Volume (3–5D)

A hand-made fan of 3–5 ultra-fine extensions on each natural lash. Soft, fluffy and fuller.

  • Mega Volume (6–15D)

Fans of 6–15 of the finest extensions, for the densest, darkest lash line.

What is a fan?

A fan is a few very fine extensions joined at a slim base and opened out. The base sits on a single natural lash, exactly as a classic extension does, so the whole fan grows and sheds with that lash. The “D” number is how many extensions are in the fan: a 2D fan has two, a 5D fan five. The higher the number, the finer each extension, so the fan stays light.

A hand-made 3D fan of 3 fine extensions on one natural lash3D3 per fan

Dark line: one natural lash. Finer lines: extensions, joined at a slim base on that single lash.

Reading the price table: 60:60 and Unlimited

The numbers beside each Set are extension strands per eye, left : right. A Classic Set of 60:60 has 60 on each eye; fuller styles use 200:200 up to 500:500. Unlimited has no fixed number: as many as your natural lashes can comfortably hold.

Texture: wispy, wet look and anime

Wispy
Fluffy fans with longer, closed “spikes” at intervals, for soft peaks and movement.
Wet Look
Closed fans, held together so each reads as a fine, glossy spike, like fresh mascara.
Anime and Piercing
Bold, defined spikes in a deliberate pattern, with softer lashes between, for a doll-like or striking look.
How we work

Every fan, made by hand

Every fan is hand-made by our technicians, during your appointment, for your lashes. We never use pre-made fans, which are produced in advance with the base already bonded.

Making each fan by hand means it can be shaped for the lash it will sit on: narrower and lighter for a fine lash, a little wider where a gap needs softening, always with a slim base that sits cleanly on one natural lash.

Lash specs

Curl, thickness, length and mapping

Four choices shape every set. Your lash artist balances them against your natural lashes and your eye shape. Tap each one to read more.

Curl types

Curl is described by letters, from almost straight to strongly lifted. These are standard industry terms; exact shapes vary a little between brands.

J curl, seen from the sideJgentle
B curl, seen from the sideBsoft
C curl, seen from the sideCclassic
CC curl, seen from the sideCCstronger
D curl, seen from the sideDdramatic
L curl, seen from the sideLflat base, sharp lift
M curl, seen from the sideMflat base, softer lift
Seen from the side: the lid on the left, the dotted line a straight lash. Exact shapes vary a little between brands.

L and M suit hooded eyes, monolids and lashes that grow straight or downward. Some curls are charged as special curls (฿300); your lash artist will tell you before starting.

Thickness

Thickness is measured in millimetres. As general guidance, classic extensions are about 0.10–0.15 mm and volume fans use 0.03–0.07 mm, so several can share one lash. The strength of your natural lash, not the look alone, decides what it can carry.

Extension thickness compared: 0.05, 0.07 and 0.15 millimetres0.05 mm · volume fans0.07 mm · volume and hybrid0.15 mm · classic
Drawn to the same scale. A 0.05 mm extension is a third of the thickness of a 0.15 mm classic, which is why several can share one lash.
Length and mapping

Lengths are in millimetres too: shorter at the inner corner, longer towards the outer eye. As general guidance, an extension should be only a little longer than the natural lash it sits on.

A natural map, lengths in millimetres: shorter at the inner corner, gradually longer towards the outer eye.

Mapping is the plan of lengths across the eye, and it shapes your look more than any other choice. Our Foxy style is built on a cat-eye map.

Your eye shape and natural lashes
Hooded eyes
A stronger curl, such as L or D, helps lashes show above the lid fold.
Round eyes
A cat-eye map can lengthen the eye.
Almond eyes
Most maps and curls suit; choose by the look you want.
Downturned eyes
A squirrel or cat-eye map lifts the outer corners.
Monolids
L and M curls lift lashes that sit flat or point down.
Fine or sparse lashes
Finer extensions and light fans add fullness without weight.

These are starting points, not rules. Your consultation is where they come together for you.

Materials

What lash extensions are made of

Knowing the materials helps you understand how to care for them.

The extensions

As general guidance, most professional lash extensions are made from fine synthetic fibres, usually a polyester known as PBT. Names such as “mink”, “silk” and “faux mink” usually describe the finish, how soft, matte or glossy the fibre is, rather than the material itself. We use premium, ultra-fine, lightweight extensions, chosen for comfort and long wear; special colours are ฿300.

The adhesive

Lash adhesive is based on cyanoacrylate, a fast-setting bond that hardens by reacting with moisture in the air. Humidity and temperature change how quickly it sets, and a skilled lash artist adjusts to suit the day. While it hardens it gives off a light vapour, one reason your eyes stay gently closed throughout.

The bond keeps strengthening for a day or two, which is why we ask you to avoid steam, saunas and heavy exercise for the first 24–48 hours. For sensitive eyes or allergies we offer sensitive adhesive options, and a patch test before your first set.

What happens

Your lash extension appointment

From booking to the mirror, step by step.

  1. Before you come

Book your salon and time on Fresha. If you are new to lash extensions, or your eyes are sensitive, book a patch test first. On the day, please come without mascara on your lashes (mascara removal is ฿200), and avoid oil-based products around your eyes for 24 hours beforehand.

  2. Your consultation

Every appointment begins with a conversation. Your lash artist looks at your natural lashes and eye shape, asks about your routine and the look you love, and recommends a style, length and curl.

  3. Settling in

You lie back comfortably in a quiet, private room. Your lower lashes are gently covered so they stay out of the way, and your eyes stay closed for the whole application.

  4. Application

Each extension, or each hand-made fan, is attached to a single natural lash, one at a time. Many guests find it relaxing enough to doze off. Most styles take about 1–2 hours; the fullest take 2 hours or more.

  5. The reveal and your aftercare

When you are happy with the result in the mirror, your lash artist shares simple aftercare tips and suggests when to come back for an infill.

Comfort and care

Patch tests and sensitive eyes

Your comfort comes first. A few simple steps help your lashes feel as good as they look.

  • Patch test

A patch test uses the same products as a full set. We apply 3–4 individual extensions and watch for any reaction for about 15 minutes; then you wear them home and keep an eye on them. It is a helpful check, although it cannot rule out a later reaction. The patch test is free and can be booked on Fresha.

  • Sensitive eyes

We offer an adhesive option for sensitive eyes. Tell your lash artist about any allergies, sensitivity or recent eye treatments before you begin, so you can decide together whether today is the right day.

  • During your appointment

If anything feels uncomfortable, simply say so and your lash artist will pause. Keeping your eyes gently closed helps everything stay comfortable.

  • Afterwards

If you notice redness, itching or swelling after your appointment, contact the salon, and please seek advice from a pharmacist or doctor.

  • Removal

Please do not pull or pick at extensions. We remove them gently with a professional remover, at no charge for lashes applied by us.

Aftercare

Caring for your lash extensions

A few gentle habits keep your lashes looking fresh between visits.

  • First 24–48 hours

Avoid steam, saunas and heavy exercise while the adhesive settles.

  • Cleansing

Use oil-free cleansers and make-up removers, and wash your lashes gently.

  • Make-up

Skip oil-based make-up and waterproof mascara, and do not apply mascara to your extensions.

  • Every day

Brush them softly with a clean spoolie and try not to rub, pull or pick at them.

  • At night

As general guidance, sleeping on your back or side, rather than face-down, helps your lashes keep their shape.

What affects how long they last

Lash retention varies from person to person, and from one appointment to the next. It is influenced by your natural lash cycle, your individual condition, lifestyle, aftercare, environment and the application itself. The habits on this page are the part you control.

3-day guarantee

Every new set comes with a 3-day guarantee for unusual shedding or retention concerns. If you notice either in the first 3 days, simply let your salon know. This applies to new sets, not to infills.

Infills every 2–3 weeks

Your natural lashes shed a little every day, and the extensions go with them. An infill every 2–3 weeks replaces what has grown out and keeps your set full.

Infills cost ฿600–1,500, half of your style’s price, and are done in the same style you are wearing. To change style, you would book a new set.

A new full set is the better choice when a lot has grown out, or the lashes have become uneven; your lash artist will tell you before starting. You are welcome to send us a photo of your lashes beforehand.

Two ways to lovely lashes

Lash extensions vs lash lift

Both enhance your natural lashes. They simply do it in different ways.

Lash extensions add lashes: an extension or a hand-made fan on each natural lash, so you can choose how much length and fullness you want, from barely-there Classic to Mega Volume.

A lash lift adds nothing. With the Elleebana lift system, your own lashes are curled upwards from the root and set in their new shape, often with a tint to darken them.

Lash extension myths and facts

A few common beliefs, and what is really true. Tap a myth to read the fact.

Myth: Lash extensions ruin your natural lashes.

Fact. Applied one per natural lash, at a weight your lashes can carry, and removed professionally, extensions simply grow out with your lashes as they would anyway. Problems come from heavy extensions, lashes stuck together, or picking at them.

Myth: You can’t wash your lashes.

Fact. You should. Clean lashes keep extensions looking fresh. Use an oil-free cleanser, rinse gently and pat dry; your lash artist will show you how.

Myth: Mascara makes extensions look even better.

Fact. Mascara clumps extensions together and is hard to remove without pulling. If you would like more drama, choose a fuller style instead, and avoid waterproof mascara completely.

Myth: Losing a few lashes means the set has failed.

Fact. Natural lashes shed every day, and their extensions go with them. A few on your pillow is normal. If you notice unusual shedding in the first 3 days, simply let your salon know.

Myth: More volume always means more weight.

Fact. Volume fans are made from ultra-fine extensions, so a full fan can weigh about the same as one classic extension.

Myth: It is fine to pull them off at home.

Fact. Pulling extensions off takes natural lashes with them. Professional removal dissolves the adhesive gently, and there is no charge for lashes applied by us.

Lash extension questions

Should I choose lash extensions or a lash lift?

Extensions add lashes, for more length and fullness, kept fresh with infills every 2–3 weeks. A lash lift adds nothing: it curls your own lashes upwards, often with a tint, and lasts up to 6–8 weeks or more.

Which lash extension style is right for me?

Every appointment begins with a consultation. Your lash artist looks at your natural lashes, eye shape and the look you want, then recommends a style, from soft Classic to full Mega Volume.

What is the difference between classic, hybrid and volume lashes?

Classic places one extension on each natural lash. Volume places a hand-made fan of several ultra-fine extensions on each lash, for a softer, fuller look. Hybrid mixes the two.

Are your fans hand-made?

Yes. Every fan is hand-made by our technicians during your appointment. We never use pre-made fans.

What do 60:60 and Unlimited mean in the price list?

60:60 is the number of extension strands per eye, left : right; fuller styles use 200:200 up to 500:500. Unlimited has no fixed number: as many as your natural lashes can comfortably hold.

How long does an appointment take?

About 1–1.5 hours for Classic, Hybrid and Volume, about 1.5–2 hours for Wispy, Piercing and Anime, and 2 hours or more for the fullest styles, such as Foxy and Mega Volume.

How much do eyelash extensions cost?

From ฿1,200 for a Classic set up to ฿3,000 for an unlimited Mega Volume or Mega Wispy set, the same at our Ploenchit, Asoke and Jomtien salons.

Can I have lower lash extensions?

Yes. Lower lashes can be added to your set for ฿500–700, depending on your natural lashes, in about 30 minutes.

Do you offer a patch test?

Yes, and it is free. We apply 3–4 extensions and watch for any reaction for about 15 minutes, then you keep monitoring at home. Book it on Fresha before your first set.

How often do I need an infill?

Every 2–3 weeks. Infills cost ฿600–1,500, half of your style’s price, in the same style. If a lot has grown out, a new full set may be needed.

Can I swim or exercise with lash extensions?

Yes, after the first 24–48 hours. Until then, avoid heavy exercise, steam and saunas, as sweat and moisture can weaken the adhesive while it settles.

Can you remove lash extensions?

Yes. Removal costs ฿200–400, with no charge for lashes applied by us. Please do not pull them off yourself.

What if my plans change?

Please let us know with as much notice as possible, through Fresha, LINE or WhatsApp, and we will gladly find you another time.
